Let me first welcome you to the website of the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (IMMA).
IMMA is the trusted voice of the global motorcycle industry in global forums. In these forums, IMMA promotes safe, sustainable motorcycling. IMMA advocates the development and harmonisation of technical regulations which affect the motorcycle industry and IMMA aims to advance inclusive policies for motorcycling.
It is a privilege and honour for me, as IMMA President, to emphasise my personal commitment to push forward common objectives in three key issues: safety, environment and mobility.
Road Safety is a shared responsibility. We as manufacturers are committed to take our share, to equip vehicles with safety technologies and support the creation of a responsibility and safety culture with our users. Furthermore, IMMA will continue building on its successful Road Safety White Paper with best practices for motorcycle safety.
As a result of economic growth and social trends such as urbanization in both mature markets and emerging markets, there is an increasing demand for personal mobility. Large cities are now updating their mobility strategies. Such strategies require the inclusion of a motorcycle mobility component! We should not forget that Motorcycles, often referred to as ‘Powered two and three wheelers’ (PTWs), have an important role to play in the mobility mix.
To achieve its goals, IMMA works closely with the authorities, international institutions and stakeholders in different policy-areas. Today, authorities at all levels: local, national and regional, are now updating and aligning their policies with the Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs) as adopted in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly. Also IMMA is looking into this.
IMMA’s work is backed up by its members: National Industry Associations representing their motorcycle manufacturing and trade industry from Australia, Asia, Canada, Europe, India, and the United States. Together, we account for production of more than 35 million units per year.
